🧴 General Questions
1. What is a spray tan?
A spray tan is a sunless tanning treatment where a fine mist containing DHA is applied to the skin to create a bronzed, tanned look without sun exposure.
2. How does it work?
DHA (dihydroxyacetone) reacts with dead skin cells to temporarily darken the skin. The result develops over several hours.
3. Is it safe?
Yes. DHA is FDA-approved for external use. Be sure to protect eyes, nose, and mouth during application.
4. How long does it last?
Typically 5–10 days, depending on your skin type, preparation, and aftercare.
5. Will it protect me from the sun?
No. Spray tans do not provide SPF or sun protection.
🧼 Before Your Spray Tan
6. How should I prepare?
Exfoliate 24 hours before, shave or wax in advance, and arrive with clean, dry, lotion-free skin.
7. Can I shower before my appointment?
Yes, but do so at least 4 hours before your appointment.
8. Should I exfoliate?
Definitely. Exfoliating helps the tan apply evenly and last longer.
9. What should I wear?
Wear loose, dark clothing and open-toed shoes. Avoid tight straps or undergarments.
10. Can I shave or wax before?
Yes—ideally 24 hours before your tan.
☀️ During the Appointment
11. How long does it take?
10–15 minutes for the spray; full appointment may take up to 30 minutes.
12. Do I have to be nude?
It’s up to you. Disposable undergarments are available, or you can go nude to avoid tan lines.
13. Will it stain my clothes?
It may temporarily stain light fabrics. Stick with dark, loose-fitting clothes.
14. Can I pick my shade?
Yes. Your technician will help choose the best tone for your skin and desired look.
15. Is there a scent?
Some solutions have added fragrance, but many are unscented and hypoallergenic.
🧴 Aftercare & Maintenance
16. When can I shower?
Wait 8–12 hours (or as instructed) after a traditional tan. Rapid tans may only need 1–4 hours.
17. Can I sweat or swim afterward?
Avoid all moisture until the tan is fully developed to prevent streaking.
18. What should I avoid?
Avoid bar soap, oil-based products, exfoliants, and long hot showers.
19. How do I make it last?
Moisturize daily, avoid scrubbing, and pat dry after bathing.
20. Will it fade evenly?
With proper moisturizing, your tan should fade gradually and evenly.
🚨 Troubleshooting
21. Why is it orange?
Too much DHA or dry skin can cause an orange tint. Prepping and using the right formula prevents this.
22. Why is it streaky?
Uneven exfoliation or sweating too soon can cause streaks. Always prep properly.
23. My hands/feet are too dark—why?
These areas absorb more DHA. Barrier creams and careful application help. Light exfoliation can tone it down.
24. Can I fix a bad tan?
Yes! Use lemon juice, baking soda, or a tan remover. Or consult your technician.
25. Why did color rinse off in my shower?
That’s the cosmetic bronzer washing off—your developed tan remains underneath.
